SIFMA, as part of the Bankruptcy Coalition provides comments to the U.S. Senate Majority and Minority Leaders on the Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008 (S.2636). The members of the Bankruptcy Coalition include: SIFMA, the American Bankers Association, the American Financial Services Association, the Consumer Bankers Association, The Financial Services Roundtable, the Housing Policy Council, the Independent Community Bankers of America, the Mortgage Bankers Association, the Manufactured Housing Institute, the National Bankers Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Coalition shares its concerns relating to S.2636. The group believes a provision in the bill that would grant new powers to bankruptcy judges to change terms of the terms of a mortgage would hurt the housing market and the overall economy.
