Mark Schuermann Joins SIFMA Advocacy Team

Washington, D.C., January 7, 2019 – SIFMA today announced that Mark Schuermann has been appointed as managing director and head of federal government and international affairs.

“I have known and worked with Mark for many years,” said Kenneth E. Bentsen, Jr., SIFMA president and CEO.  “His industry and legislative experience will provide great benefit to our members and the industry.”

“I am very excited to have Mark join our advocacy team,” said Joseph Seidel, chief operating officer of SIFMA.  “He brings extensive financial services, public policy and communications experience to this role which will serve our members well.”

Mr. Schuermann joins SIFMA from Nomura America, were he served as managing director of public affairs and represented the firm on legislative, executive and regulatory issues.  Prior to joining Nomura America, he was senior vice president for government relations at the Financial Services Forum.  Mr. Schuermann worked on Capitol Hill in a number of capacities including serving as chief of staff and communications director to Congressman Harold Ford (D-TN) and communications director to Senator Harry Reid (D-NV).  Mr. Schuermann earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Memphis.

“Mark has substantial experience in both the public and private sectors which has given him a clear understanding of the importance of the financial markets,” said Jamie Wall, SIFMA executive vice president, Advocacy.  “Mark is an outstanding addition to SIFMA and we welcome him to the team.”

Mr. Schuermann will report to Ms. Wall.  He will begin with SIFMA in January 2019.
