Janie L. Mines

SVP Inclusion & Innovation Academy Securities

Janie L. Mines entered and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy, as the only Black female in the first class of women.  She was later selected to participate in the prestigious Sloan Fellows Program, where she earned an MBA from MIT.

During her rewarding military career, she served as a Supply Corps Officer holding several positions including a tour at the Naval Training Center, the Pentagon and aboard the USS Emory S. Land (AS-39).  She was among the first generation of women officers to serve on ships.

Janie held management and executive positions in P&G, Frito-Lay, Hershey, and Bank of America. She served as the Sr. Advisor, Business Process, Senior Executive Service (HQE-SES) in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy. She formerly served as a member of the SECDEF’s Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS). She founded and led a non-profit organization, Boyz to Men Club, Inc. for over 10 years serving the needs of socioeconomically disadvantaged adolescent males.

Janie was formerly an executive management consultant focusing on Strategic Planning, Project & Change Management, Quality and Productivity, & Business Transformation. She received certifications as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, a PMP, AMA Strategic Planner, and Prosci certified Change Manager.  She has provided services across 15 industries.

Janie Mines graduated from the US Naval Academy, as the first Black female graduate.  She was among the first generation of women officers to serve on ships. She earned an MBA from MIT as a Sloan Fellow.

Janie held positions in P&G, Frito-Lay, Hershey, and Bank of America. She was an SES in the SECNAV Office and a member of Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services. As an executive management consultant, she worked across 15 industries. Janie found and led a non-profit for disadvantaged boys. She is on the Academy Securities Advisory Board and SVP of Inclusion and Innovation.

Janie’s awards include the SECDEF Award for Exceptional Public Service, US Congressional Record Proclamation for Service, National Women of Color in Business Award, Olympic Torch bearer, Civic Volunteer of the Year, 9 Who Care Award for the Charlotte Metropolitan Area, and SC Black History Honoree.  She is an official Distinguished Graduate of the Naval Academy.

Janie is an author (No Coincidences – Reflections of the First Black Female Graduate of the United States Naval Academy) and public speaker. She mentors Midshipmen, active-duty military and others as part of her ongoing commitment to invest in America’s future.
