Executive Order on Financial Regulation

In February 2017, President Trump announced an Executive Order on Core Principles for Regulating the Financial System. Within the Executive Order, President Trump directed the Secretary of the Treasury to issue a series of reports.

The Treasury Secretary’s reports include the extent to which existing laws, treaties, regulations, guidance, reporting and recordkeeping requirements, and other Government policies promote the Core Principles and what actions have been taken, and are currently being taken, to promote and support the Core Principles. They should also identify any laws, treaties, regulations, guidance, reporting and recordkeeping requirements, and other Government policies that inhibit Federal regulation of the U.S. financial system in a manner consistent with the Core Principles.

SIFMA strongly supports the Core Principles as the right framework to approach policy discussions around rebalancing and modernizing financial regulation. Our members welcome the opportunity to provide comment on ways to allow the financial sector to promote innovation, job creation and economic growth while maintaining a robust regulatory regime and preserving financial stability.
