
William Fox
William J. Fox recently retired from Bank of America, one of the largest financial institutions in the world. Fox was a Managing Director and Global Head of Bank of America’s Financial Crimes Risk function, accountable for the bank’s anti-financial crimes, fraud, and economic sanctions compliance and risk programs. He held that position for eighteen years (2006- 2024). While at Bank of America, Fox served on SWIFT’s compliance and financial crimes committee and was elected Co-chair of the Wolfsberg Group, a group of thirteen global financial institutions dedicated to setting anti-money laundering and economic sanctions standards. He also participated in the creation of private-public initiatives to enhance the sharing of actionable information relating to financial crime.
Prior to his tenure at Bank of America, Fox had an 18-year career at the United States Treasury Department holding various positions including Director of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (“FinCEN”) (2003-2006); Associate Deputy General Counsel of the Treasury (2002-2003); and Senior Advisor to the General Counsel (2000-2002). In 2003, Fox received a Presidential Meritorious Rank Award from President Bush for his work related to terrorist financing. Prior to that, Fox held several legal and leadership positions in the Treasury’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms’ Chief Counsel’s Office in Chicago and later Washington.
In January 2025, Fox was appointed to the Board of Directors for ACAMS, a leading international membership organization dedicated to addressing financial crime. Fox has also served since 2019 as a Trustee on Creighton University’s Board of Trustees, serving as the Chair of the Board’s Risk Management, Audit and Compliance Subcommittee, and is a member of the Board’s Finance and Infrastructure Committee.
Fox earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Creighton University in 1984 and a Juris Doctor from Creighton’s School of Law in 1987. Fox and his wife, Jennifer, live in Charlotte, North Carolina and have two adult children.
