Facts About Speculation in the Energy and Commodity Markets

SIFMA, the Futures Industry Association (FIA), International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Inc. (ISDA), the Investment Company Institute (ICI), the Managed Funds Association (MFA), and The Financial Services Roundtable (FSR) provide comments to the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives members clarifying the facts about the role of speculation in the energy and commodity markets.  The groups point out that speculators are necessary for the futures and derivatives markets to function properly and allow investors to hedge their risks.
