SIA Submits Comments to SEC on Financial Privacy Provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act

The Securities Industry Association (SIA)* provides comments to the Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC) on proposed rules (Regulation S-P)that would implement the financial privacy provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLB Act), File No. S7-6-00. The GLB Act places certain restrictions on financial institutions regarding the disclosure of consumers’ non-public personal information to non-affiliated third parties and requires financial institutions to disclose:1) their privacy policies and practices with respect to the sharing of that information with affiliates and non-affiliated third parties; and2) their procedures for securing their customer’s non-public personal information.

SIA details their recommendations about the proposal and other related issues on which the SEC invited comment.
