Vadim Novik is a tax partner at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in New York. Vadim advises businesses, financial services firms, and investment funds on a broad range of technical tax issues, focusing on capital markets, securitization and financial products, including structured notes. Vadim has particular expertise in advising investment funds and institutional investors on derivative transactions, including synthetic risk transfer transactions.

Vadim is a thought leader in the industry. He frequently speaks at industry conferences, including PLI, the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, and the Wall Street Tax Association. He has written about various tax topics, including “A Lonely Sojourn Through the Conduit Regulations” in Tax Notes (July 16, 2025),“Hot Commodities and Hotshot Market Makers: Why Should I Care Whether Virtual Currencies Are Commodities for Purposes of Section 475?” in PLI, Taxation of Financial Products and Transactions (January 10, 2022) and “To Forgive Is Divine — A Primer on the Cancellation of Related-Party Debt” in Bloomberg BNA Daily Tax Report (January 11, 2018).

Vadim is a member of the Tax Club and serves as the Vice Chair of the Financial Institutions and Products Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation. He is a Board member of the Wall Street Tax Association and the Journal of Taxation of Financial Products.

Prior to joining Fried Frank, Vadim worked in senior tax counsel capacities at two major financial institutions and was a tax associate at an international law firm.
