
Natalie Lamarque
Chief Legal Officer and Managing Director, Vanguard Personal Investor
Natalie Lamarque is chief legal officer and managing director of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), responsible for managing legal, compliance, public policy, and investment stewardship activities. She also serves as secretary of the Board and secretary of the Vanguard funds. Prior to joining Vanguard in 2025, she was executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of Principal Financial Group, overseeing all aspects of the firm’s governance, legal, compliance and government relations needs worldwide. Prior to this role, she was employed by New York Life Insurance Company, where she held various positions, including senior vice president and general counsel. Prior to that she served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in the Criminal Division. Prior to that she was an associate at Debevoise and Plimpton, LLP in the white collar group. She started her career as a federal district court and court of appeals law clerk.
Lamarque is admitted to practice in New York and obtained her B.A. cum laude from Duke University and her J.D. magna cum laude from Duke University School of Law. She is on the boards of City Year, Inc. Board of Visitors for Duke University School of Law, New York University School of Law’s Board of Advisors for Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement, and an Advisor to Duke University’s Cybersecurity Leadership Program.
