
Matthew Morningstar
Group Managing Director, Chief Legal Officer, LPL Financial
Matthew Morningstar is the Chief Legal Officer and Group Managing Director of Legal, Policy, and Community Impact for LPL Financial. In this role, Mr. Morningstar is responsible for driving strategic legal guidance, public policy engagement, and community initiatives across the firm.
Mr. Morningstar joined LPL in 2021 and was Head of Litigation and Regulatory Affairs, as well as Head of Advisory & Commercial Law. In both roles, he led large and diverse high-performing teams that handled a broad array of legal matters for the firm.
In prior roles, Mr. Morningstar served as Chief Counsel of Litigation and M&A Legal at MetLife and as Global Head of Litigation and Regulatory Enforcement for Morgan Stanley Investment Management.
Beyond his legal expertise, Mr. Morningstar is a recipient of the National LGBT Bar Association’s Out and Proud Corporate Counsel Award and has served in leadership roles with the New York City Bar’s Committee to Enhance Diversity in the Profession, the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms, and other influential organizations. He is also on the executive committees for Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) and the Compliance & Legal Society.
Mr. Morningstar earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Columbia University and his Juris Doctor degree from Cornell Law School.
