Katie Koelling is Vice President, Deputy General Counsel within Thrivent’s General Counsel’s Office, as well as the Chief Privacy Officer for Thrivent and its affiliates and subsidiaries. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel and Secretary, she leads strategic and operational efforts that carry out Thrivent’s purpose and protect its trusted reputation.
In her dual role, Katie leads the enterprise’s Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering, Identity Theft, Sanctions Compliance, Special Investigations and Customer Fraud Unit, Information Lifecycle Management, and Vendor Management/Procurement Offices. As the Chief Privacy Officer, she regularly reports directly to the Audit Committee of the Thrivent Board of Directors and subsidiary boards.. In addition, Katie provides legal counsel and leads the team responsible for providing legal and compliance enterprise support for: information technology, data & analytics, data science and automation, and governance, AI, data ecosystems, privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property, fraternal/tax-exempt law, anti-money laundering, identity theft, customer fraud, marketing & digital capabilities, electronic communications, mobile solutions, procurement and contracting, safety and security, facilities, information lifecycle management, and business continuity & disaster recovery.
Prior to her current role, Katie provided legal support and counsel to Thrivent concerning health and life insurance product development, new business development, product operations, and risk management and provided management for information security, asset management, product operations, business continuity and physical security.
Katie holds a Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Microbiology & Immunology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Katie is licensed to practice law in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. Katie joined Thrivent in 2002 and is active in legal, trade and industry groups within the financial services industry. She serves as the chair of the ACLI Privacy and Cybersecurity Committee and serves on the Responsible AI Steering Committee and Roundtable for The American College Center for Ethics. She volunteers regularly in her community, Junior Achievement, and serves on the Audit and Compliance Committee of Froedtert ThedaCare Health.
