James Mangan

Global Head of Litigation Morgan Stanley

James Mangan is a Managing Director in the Legal & Compliance Division at Morgan Stanley.  He is the Global Head of Litigation, which represents the Firm in civil litigation, regulatory enforcement, government, and internal investigations worldwide.

Jim previously served as the Head of US Litigation, and the Head of Asia Litigation based in Hong Kong.  Jim joined Morgan Stanley in 2001.  He graduated from Georgetown University in 1992 (A.B., summa cum laude) and from Georgetown University Law Center in 1995 (J.D., magna cum laude), where he was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he was with the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore, where he represented clients in securities and antitrust matters.  Jim also served as law clerk to the Honorable Joseph McLaughlin on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Jim previously served on the Board of Directors of New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, where he was a member of the Pro Bono Committee.  In 2016, he received the Excellence in Corporate Leadership Award from Nazareth Housing and, in 2019, he received the John P. Cooney, Jr. Award for Mentorship & Community Involvement from the Inner-City Scholarship Fund.  Jim lives in Harrison, NY with his wife Kelly and their three sons.
