Howard Klausmeier

VP & Chief Counsel - Litigation, Ameriprise Financial

Howard Klausmeier is the Vice President and Chief Counsel – Litigation for Ameriprise Financial, Inc., which is the parent company for, among others, Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC and RiverSource Life Insurance Company.  Howard joined Ameriprise Financial as the result of two corporate combinations beginning first with OLDE Discount Corporation and then H&R Block Financial Services.  Before joining OLDE Discount Corporation, Howard worked four years as an associate with the Law Firm of Wise & Marsac, PC in Detroit, Michigan.  He began his legal career in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Navy and was on active duty for five years.  When Howard left the U.S. Navy he held the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

After attending Michigan State University and graduating with Honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Criminal Justice and Psychology, Howard continued his legal studies at Wayne State University Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree and was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Trusts and Decedents’ Estates.  While on active duty in Washington DC, Howard attended George Washington University Law School and completed the classroom studies for an LL.M. in corporate and securities law.

Howard is soon to be a former member of the National Arbitration & Mediation Committee (NAMC) of FINRA.  In his spare time, he enjoys golfing and skiing with his children and grandchildren and is an active member of the National Ski Patrol.
