Charles Sommers

Charlie Sommers is a partner in the Securities Enforcement and Regulatory group at Sidley Austin LLP in Washington, D.C. He advises broker-dealers, hedge funds, exchanges, clearing agencies, alternative trading systems, and other market participants on a broad range of regulatory, compliance, enforcement, and transactional matters. His practice focuses on equities, options, fixed income, and derivatives trading, market structure, and the regulation of trading venues, including those trading digital assets or using blockchain technology. Before joining Sidley, Charlie served as Special Counsel in the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets, where he worked extensively on equity market structure initiatives and the regulation of alternative trading systems and national securities exchanges. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, the University of Colorado Law School, and Georgetown University Law Center.
