The Securities Industry Association (SIA)* provides comments to the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce on draft international safe harbor privacy principles. SIA opposes the imposition of new privacy standards on the securities industry, given that the existing comprehensive regulatory structure of the securities industry and self-interest of industry members in protecting their clients’ privacy have protected, and will continue to protect, the privacy of the industry’s customers.
