SIFMA Celebrates Black History Month

As we celebrate Black History Month, SIFMA and our member firms have reflected on the profound impact Black Americans have had on our communities. Below, we highlight the numerous ways our member firms are acknowledging the accomplishments of Black colleagues, investing in Black businesses, amplifying Black voices, and modeling a culture of inclusion throughout the industry:

  • Academy Securities celebrates Black History Month and highlights a teammate who is the first woman to graduate from the US Naval Academy.
  • AllianceBernstein hosted an event for employees celebrating Black art, artists, and curators.
  • BNY Mellon hosted a series of events for employees, including a virtual event with civil rights pioneer Ruby Bridges, a mental and holistic health workshop, a forum to better understand the Black employee experience, and a poetry slam featuring Black poets.
  • Credit Suisse highlighted the start of Black History Month on social media and hosted a series of events throughout the month.
  • Fifth Third Bank published an article celebrating Black History Month.
  • Fidelity published a blog on LinkedIn and shared a series of social media messages about the impact of Black culture and the role of sponsorship in the career development of Black and Latinx associates, and included an ad in the 2022 USA Today Black History Month edition.
  • FINRA’s African American Network (FAAN) Employee Resource Group offered employees a series of events designed to engage, educate, and inspire them to help increase their knowledge and strengthen FINRA’s culture of inclusion.
  • Janney Montgomery Scott prepared an internal guide for employees that outlines various ways to celebrate and support Black history not just during the month of February but all year long. Additionally, they published social content that promotes various ways to celebrate, along with ongoing support via financial commitments and fundraising.
  • Lincoln Financial Group launched an internal content series, hosted internal events focused on Black health and wellness, and spotlighted their many partnerships on social media.
  • Penserra, a certified minority-business enterprise (MBE), highlighted the importance of Black History month in a LinkedIn campaign.
  • Primerica launched a social media campaign to amplify the voices of African American employees and honor Black History Month.
  • RBC Wealth Management published a full-page ad in the 2022 USA Today Black History Month edition.
  • TIAA held a series of events, including a webinar on economic empowerment and disrupting the wealth gap.
  • UBS sponsored the Boston Globe’s Black History Month Film Festival and an event on developing Black-owned businesses.
  • S. Bank is raising awareness about U.S. Bank Access Commitment™, its long-term program to build wealth and redefine how the company serves racially diverse customers and creates more opportunities for diverse employees, starting with the Black community.

SIFMA is proud of our member firms’ work to honor Black History Month and remain committed to our own diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. We recognize there is still work to be done.

Through our Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Council, we convene industry leaders to share best practices, develop diversity initiatives, and provide resources as firms work to enhance inclusion in the workplace and serve diverse clients. Through our thought leadership content, annual DEI Leadership Summit, and SIFMA Invest!, a new initiative to connect students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-Serving Institutions to careers in the industry, SIFMA is committed to moving the conversation forward.
