Paul Puleo

Chairman of Insurance Investment Banking, Deutsche Bank

Paul is the Chairman of Insurance Investment Banking in Deutsche Bank’s Financial Institutions Group. He has been with DB since 2003 and held leadership roles in the Structuring, Trading and Capital Markets divisions of the Bank

In his current role, Paul has primary coverage responsibility for several of the Bank’s largest and most important global insurance clients. He also provides guidance and counsel to the investment banking team across all clients. Paul specializes in leveraging the Bank’s cross- division capabilities in developing and executing innovative capital, risk and financing solutions.
Paul was previously the Global Head of Pension and Insurance Risk Markets (PIRM) at DB – which he formed in 2012. He was a member of the Structured Finance Executive Committee during this period.

The PIRM team worked across the various divisions of the bank to develop numerous innovative and groundbreaking transactions in multiple geographies including Longevity Swaps, Pension Buyouts, Catastrophe Bonds, Insurance Reserve Financing and Value in Force Acquisition.

Prior to 2012, Paul worked in and ultimately headed the North American Financial Institutions team within Capital Markets. The team focused on: debt origination, liability management and structured solutions across the industry segments within the Financial Institutions classification.

Under his leadership the team expanded Deutsche Bank’s US presence with FI clients, developed numerous innovative product solutions and completed client transactions across the capital structure in multiple currencies. Paul was a member of the North American Leadership team for Capital Markets and Treasury Solutions during this period.

Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Paul worked for Lehman Brothers for 10 years where he was a founding member of Lehman Re – an Investment Bank owned reinsurance company which was a pioneer in the area of insurance and capital markets convergence. He provided solutions and advice to numerous corporate, governmental and insurance clients seeking to develop a strategy to access these developing markets

Early in his career Paul worked as a Senior Insurance Industry Analyst at Moody’s and as an Audit Manager at Coopers and Lybrand.

Paul graduated from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School with a BSE majoring in Accounting and Actuarial Science. He has qualified as a CPA and an FSA.

Recently, Paul has become involved with mentoring Insurance Technology entrepreneurs.

Paul and his family are active in supporting several non-profit organizations associated with Pediatric Transplant and Organ Donation.
