2018 Listed Options Program
For 45 years, SIFMA’s Operations Conference & Exhibition has gathered operations, technology and regulatory leaders from across the securities industry to collaborate, share information and address challenges.
As the industry continues to evolve – responding to regulatory changes, shortening the settlement cycle, tapping into the transformative potential of technology and driving smarter efficiencies – today’s innovation is presenting new ways for firms to understand and interact with their customers, businesses, and the markets.
Join us at OPS 2018 as we explore the practical applications of breakthrough technologies in operations, compliance and the implementation of regulatory changes, evolving investor engagement, and management of new risks in support of safe and resilient capital markets.

Henry Schwartz, Founder and President of Trade Alert LLC will provide a data-driven look at recent trends and current issues in today's options markets. Discussion will focus on how automation, fragmentation, and competition are impacting market activity and the diverse mix of participants in today's options markets landscape.
1:40pm – 2:40pm
In recent remarks at The Economic Club of New York, SEC Chairman Clayton delivered off-piste remarks, “liquidity is not free… you have to pay for it, but whether we’re getting the bang for the buck on liquidity, whether it is ending up in the right place is a question I have, is a question a lot of people have; we should think about it.” In this interactive session, subject matter experts will debate whether the liquidity provision in today’s market structure strikes the proper balance between the interests of main-street investors and those of highly sophisticated liquidity providers.

3:00pm – 4:00pm
The options market continues to be impacted by various regulations – many of which may have unintended consequences on market structure, including the treatment of risk weighted assets. Regulations, like CAT, that impose new costs on broker-dealers – coupled with market fragmentation, market data fees and increasing clearing costs – have created complexity in the markets. As the industry looks ahead, panelists will address regulation and risk as well as the necessary changes to legacy systems and rules, such as ORF and the CMTA system.
James R. Burns, Steve Crutchfield, John P. Davidson, David S. Shillman, Ronald J. Veith
4:00pm – 5:00pm
As 2018 approaches, leaders of the listed-options community come together to share their perspectives of the listed options markets. Panelists, which include senior leadership from the industry and exchanges, will have a lively debate and opine on what has recently occurred, how we can collectively improve listed-options market structure, and what is needed to make it happen.
