Career center position descriptions
For certain positions there are various levels of increasing responsibility:
Junior: Performs routine work of the department under immediate supervision. Position typically requires less than two years experience.
Intermediate: Performs departmental tasks under limited supervision; exercises individual judgment and initiative. Position typically requires two to five years of professional experience and a general knowledge of departmental procedures and related business concepts.
Senior: Performs tasks of a highly technical nature with only general supervision. Regularly exercises individual judgment and initiative. May assist department supervisor in the guidance or training of novices. Position requires thorough professional seasoning (typically at least five years of experience) and a broad knowledge of all facets of department operations. May provide technical direction.
Supervisor: Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a specific function or activity within the section through subordinate personnel. May participate in performance review process.
Manager: Responsible for the long-term, strategic focus of all activities within the department through subordinate supervising personnel. Supervisors and Group/Section Managers usually report to this position. Responsible for conducting/overseeing performance and salary reviews. Usually responsible for hiring prospective job applicants.
