Top 10 Schools to Travel to Washington, DC for an Awards Reception

SIFMA Foundation Program Connects Financial Readiness and Government Awareness for Nearly 15,000 Students from 733 Schools  

Washington, DC, May 19, 2014— SIFMA and the SIFMA Foundation today congratulated all the participants of the 11th Annual Stock Market Game™-Capitol Hill Challenge (CHC) national program and announced the 10 teams with the highest return on their portfolio win a trip to Washington, DC, and who will be recognized at an Awards Reception on Capitol Hill on June 11th. 

“Congratulations to all the participants of this year’s Capitol Hill Challenge,” said Kenneth E. Bentsen, Jr., SIFMA’s President and CEO. “SIFMA commends Congress for its 100% participation and gives special recognition to those who took the time to visit their local school and engage with the students on financial education and role of government in our capital markets.”   

This 14-week competition among teams of middle and high school students organized by Congressional district and state is a special version of the Stock Market Game™ where student teams invest a hypothetical $100,000 in listed stocks, bonds, mutual funds and cash while simultaneously learning the value of saving and investing as they work together to maximize the return of their portfolio.

“We commend all of the teachers and students who put their financial skills to the test on behalf of their Members of Congress and gained valuable insights into the world of government and our global economy,” said Richard Brueckner, SIFMA Foundation Chairman. “We also commend Congress on its unanimous support of a critical area of education, youth financial capability, through a record 100% participation in SIFMA Foundation’s 2014 Capitol Hill Challenge program.”

The competition uses the curriculum-based Stock Market Game™, a program of the SIFMA Foundation, to help students develop a better understanding of the global economy, strengthen their personal financial skills and improve their knowledge of math, economics and business.

Since the Capitol Hill Challenge began in 2004, more than 2,200 Member of Congress matches have been made to 61,000 middle and high school students in all 50 states.
