SIFMA Members' Open Letter:

WELCOME TO THE PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE UNITED STATES

November 5, 2008

Dear SIFMA Members,

Last night, the world witnessed an historic election.  Those of us who are Americans exercised the privilege and the right to vote for the next President of the United States of America.  Today, we begin a new chapter.

Together, both as citizens of this nation and as members of the financial community, we face many serious challenges. On behalf of the members of SIFMA, I wish to extend to our new President and Congress a pledge to work constructively on the issues before us on the global financial agenda.

This year has been one of very troubling economic conditions. The financial turmoil has laid bare fissures in the current regulatory system and created an opportunity for serious and sweeping reform.  SIFMA has already begun to make public a vision for systemic reform and looks forward to making meaningful contributions to the evolving dialogue.  You can find this here.

SIFMA approaches this moment with a clear sense of purpose and a continuing commitment to address the critical issues we all face.  We will lead our industry as we engage policy makers in building the financial health of individuals, businesses and institutions in communities across the globe.

Sincerely,

Timothy Ryan
