Hurricane Sandy Relief: How to Give

These charitable organizations are working to facilitate a full recovery in the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Zone. Here's how you can personally assist in relief efforts by supporting organizations such as local food banks and community groups.

  • The Red Cross: If you would like to give to the Red Cross, you can donate online, by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10. The Red Cross is also seeking blood and platelet donations. To learn more, visit
  • The Salvation Army: You can donate $10 to the Salvation Army by texting “STORM” to 80888. Learn more about what the Salvation is doing today and how you can help by visiting their blog
  • AmeriCares: AmeriCares is delivering relief supplies, bottled water and a mobile clinic for families in the tri-state area affected by Hurricane Sandy.  
  • Community FoodBank of New Jersey: The Community FoodBank of New Jersey has been working closely with New Jersey Voluntary Organization Active in Disaster (VOAD), the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army to respond to the needs of the many New Jersey Residents who have been affected by the devastation from Hurricane Sandy. 
  • World Vision: World Vision has pre-positioned relief supplies to provide emergency assistance to families as the storm’s terrible toll becomes apparent. You can text “GIVEUSA” to 777444 to make a $10 donation, or donate online to help.  
  • Operation USA: If you would like your donations to go to efforts abroad, Operation USA is helping victims in the Caribbean, who were also deeply affected by the storm. In addition to donating online, you can text “AID” to 50555 to give $10. 
  • International Medical Corps: Another option for donating abroad. 
  • New York Blood Center: You can donate blood, used to help injured people, as well as hospital blood banks affected by the storm.
